’13 Reasons Why’ Star Katherine Langford To Topline YA Film ‘Spontaneous’

EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Langford, a newly minted Golden Globe nominee for her role in Netflix’s drama, 13 Reasons Why, is attached as the female lead in sci-fi fantasy film, Spontaneous, from writer/director Brian Duffield, based on the young adult novel of the same name by Aaron Starmer.

Langford will star as Mara Carlye, whose life is forever changed when students in her senior class literally explodes for no discernible reason. As students continue to pop like blood-filled balloons and the town descends into both chaos and apathy, Mara and her friends stay close together as they await possible combustion – wondering what part of life is worth living if it might end suddenly.

Matt Kaplan and Max Siemers of Awesomeness Films are producing with Nicki Cortese via Jurassic Party Productions.

Langford, who is set to reprise her role as Hannah Baker on the sophomore run of 13 Reasons, will co-star in Fox 2000’s upcoming drama, Love, Simon, directed by Greg Berlanti. The Australia-native is repped by WME, Independent Management Company in Australia and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
